AMETHYST
All Amethyst is actually Quartz (Rock Crystal) containing Manganese as an impurity. This impurity gives the Quartz the purple coloring.
Like Rock Crystal (clear Quartz), Amethyst forms in bedrock cavities which have become filled with silica-charged, thermal gases or liquids. Additionally, in the formation of Amethyst, this "soup" is further enriched with the presence of Manganese. Normally, this occurs as the result of tectonic activity (volcanism or the formation of subterranean magma chambers).
As the superheated mineral-laden gases or liquids cool down, crystals begin to emerge from the "soup" and form on the surfaces of any native rocks the gaseous or liquid mass is in contact with, or even on each other.

This shipment of beautiful Lavender Amethyst from Africa consists of partial crystals and large fragments measuring from between 1" by 5/8" to 1 1/8" by 1". We have divided these up into lots of two specimens each.
Due to the trememdous variations in size and shape, no two lots are the same.
